Nutritionists, Personal Trainers and Physiotherapists now added to HMRC targets
In an attempt to close the tax gap and reclaim £4 billion for the Treasury before April 2013, HMRC has stepped up its efforts surrounding the Tax Catch Up Plan (TCUP) and Electrician Tax Safe Plan (ETSP).
Previously TCUP was targeted towards those proving coaching, instruction or tuition, whereas now nutritionists, personal trainers and physiotherapists have been asked for details of all their gross payments from which no PAYE tax has been deducted – they had not been mentioned before.
HMRC have disclosed that they have issued over 64,000 letters to businesses within the electrical trade to warn them about the ETSP campaign. They have also stated their intention to serve formal notices to 17 different organisations, to identify potential targets for enquiry.
The next campaign is set to be launched on 3rd July 2012 and will target higher rate tax payers, who have failed to file tax returns.
