HMRC consultation on paperless self assessment

HMRC are consulting on plans to introduce paperless self-assessment (SA) tax returns which would see communications with taxpayers conducted electronically, in line with the department’s digital strategy.
The consultation, which closes on 27 December 2013, is seeking views on the proposed changes to legislation.

Automatic cancellation of a PAYE scheme

From 28 October 2013 HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have been issuing letters (RTI206) to employers to advise that, because their records indicate that an employer has not operated PAYE or paid any subcontractors, they have automatically closed the PAYE scheme due to inactivity.
