Solihull Chamber News Column - 20th July 2017
I read recently that the amount of cyber-attacks targeting businesses has increased by more than half in the second quarter of 2017, according to a new report from Beaming, a business ISP. It’s a worrying time, in particular because these invaders are getting much cleverer. I used to think I could easily spot a fake email, but the latest coming into my Inbox, purportedly from HM Revenue and Customs, was quite believable.
The report suggests that each business experiences 105 attempts to take control of their database applications per day, compared to just 14 in the first three months of the year.
I am the first to complain of the numerous passwords I have to remember, because you are not supposed to write them down! But when major organisations like the NHS succumb, then it is a strong reminder of how imperative it is that we all keep our vital defences up to date and prioritise security over convenience.
