Merger Signals Growth for Microscope Specialist

Mazurek Optical Services in Southam has merged with York-based PBA Microscopes, doubling its client base. The new company now supplies a full range of microscopes and optical solutions, backed up with a microscope servicing and repairs department.

Mazurek supplies most of the UK’s top universities, including Warwick, Manchester and Cambridge, along with more than 1,000 regular clients in various other industries. It has recently been approved by the NHS to supply departments such as pathology, haematology and microbiology. Other industries include electronics, food, manufacturing and asbestos analysis.

Microscope servicing and repairs has also been a big part of the business. With service engineers across the UK, they are able to service any make and model of microscope on location and at an affordable price.

Stephen Mazurek, a company director, said: “I made the decision to start our own business more than four years ago after a previous company we worked for went into liquidation. We met with Laurence Moore, a partner with Prime, who advised us on how to start up. Since then we have continued to go from strength to strength.

“The company merger has given us better access to clients in the north of the country with our York-based office. Our accountants have helped us enormously with the everyday running of the business, offering us good advice on employing new engineers and how to move the business forward.

“My goal is to be the number one choice for microscope servicing in the UK,” said Mr Mazurek.
