Top tips for selling in a recession

Even though times are hard, new business is still out there - you have just got to make sure you get to it before your competitors do.  The winners in the race for sales will be the ones who are the smartest and work the hardest.  Bear in mind the following:

1. Business is still out there.  You just need to do more prospecting and work more effectively to get the same or hopefully more business than before.

2. You need to let more people know about your products and services to achieve the same sales as before.

3. This means that you need to generate more enquiries, issue more quotes and chase them up harder.

4. As well as working harder you need to also work smarter so that you do more prospecting in the same amount of time.  Uisng IT will help you to do this cost effectively.

5. You probably need to change your sales messages to "How we can help you to save money".

6. Use more cost effective marketing methods such as e-shots tailored to your customers and prospects.  Do you run regular promotions?  If you do, how effective are they?

7. Do not forget your existing customers.  Who has not bought bought from you in the last month?  Find out why not.

8. Make sure you are using the power of the internet - there are lots of people who are searching the internet right now for your products and services.

9. Create a marketing plan and make sure you put it into action - including promotions, telephone calls, e-shots mail shots.

10.  You need to think about adding additional products to your range and consider finding new markets.
